My first year with Oura

Today I want to talk to you about my first year of using the Oura ring. So what is a Oura ring? Well it is a “gadget” that monitor your sleep and stress levels. It measures things such as:

  • how fast you fall asleep
  • how long you have slept
  • how much light, deep and REM sleep you have etc.

Also it measures something called heart rate variability – HRV which is a bio marker for how well you can cope with stress.

One of the major things that stood out to me was how my body temperature varies over my menstrual cycle. And how this affects the quality of my sleep. In the follicle phase and leading up to ovulation I tend to be cooler. This gives me much better recovery from my sleep. And in the luteal phase my body temperature rises and impairs my sleep a great deal. Sleep is the foundation of great health so for me this means that I cannot put as much stress on me in the luteal phase as I can in the follicle phase.

This ring has helped to take my sleep and recovery to the next level as I get feedback on my lifestyle and what is beneficial versus what impairs my sleep. Also I will to a certain extent use this bio feedback and navigate my day depending on how my HRV score is. But in the end, it is always my own feeling that decides of course. I will not let a technical gadget dictate my life.
