I adjust my lifestyle

As I discussed in my post around activating autophagy it gave me an idea to make a small adjustment to my current lifestyle. When I am in the luteal phase, especially the last week before my period, I do not do any extended fasting. I stick to 12 – 13 hours. Also I eat a higher amount of carbs. This means that when I enter the follicle phase I am glucose driven to a large extent. In order to speed up the switch of energy sources from glucose to fats, I will start adding two or three days where I will do the following.

  • Start my fasting regimen. Depending on how I feel I will do somewhere between 14 – 18 hours.
  • Break my fast with fats instead of protein.
  • Eat 80-90% add healthy fats and keep protein as low as possible. Somewhere between 20 – 40 grams.

Preventing disease

What this also does is to boost my inner healing and tapping into my body’s intelligence since this lifestyle will activate autophagy. Autophagy is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. “Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat. So the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating”.

I use fasting (among many other things) as a means to prevent diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, and such. There are of course no guarantees in life, but I still want to do what I can with my lifestyle to optimize my chances of staying healthy.

Besides this slight adjustment of my lifestyle this is other important factors that I do.

Generellt

  • Daily walks
  • Hot baths 2 – 3 times a week.
  • I aim to have my meals very nutrient dense.

Follicle phase

  • Macros: 60% fat, 30% protein and 10% carbs.

Luteal phase

  • Macros: 50% fat, 30% protein and 20% carbs.
